Jimbo Mathus on the Tin Shed Porch at 100 Men D.B.A. Hall in Bay St. Louis, MS (Mon. June 27, 2022)

On Monday, June 27, 2022  “Tin Shed Porch Musician in Residency”, Jimbo Mathus, performed on the outdoor stage at the 100 Men D.B.A. Hall in Bay St. Louis, MS. The event served as a fundraiser to assist the non-profit organization’s college scholarship program for young women of color graduating from the Hancock County high schools.

During Mathus’ residency, he with the assistance of Dale Pohl, taught 25 youth (ages 7 to 20) to complete a fully functional marionette. In a month long workshop the students were introduced to marionette making and theatre. The workshop tuition was free, all supplies were salvaged materials and all labor was donated to complete month long project. Mathus researched, wrote and directed the resulting film A Blues Chronicle (100 Years of 100 Men Hall) that tells the story of this incredible 100 year old community space and it was screened for a packed house at the completion of the project.

The 100 Men D.B.A. Hall is located at 303 Union Street, Bay Saint Louis, MS. The Southland Music Line spotlighted this famous music destination in the Mar. 22, 2019 article “Mississippi Blues Trail Series: 100 Men D.B.A. Hall – Bay St. Louis” by Brenda Germany.
