Music and a starlit sky have long been considered an inviting combination. On March 13, 2021, the City of Gautier, Mississippi in partnership with the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance unveiled their new “Can’t Stop the Music Concert Series”. This inaugural concert, located on the spacious grounds of the former Singing River Mall, took full advantage of a beautiful night sky and great music. City Manager, Paula Yancey, opened the free, drive-in event series. Attendees had the option of viewing the concert on the large projection screen and listening from the comfort of their cars, which was simulcast to a local radio station, or from their lawn chairs on the grassy area near the stage. Food trucks Klassy Wrappers, Keeping it Tasty, and Norwood’s Famous Skins from the City’s weekly Tasty Thursday event were also on hand.

Leading the way for this concert series honoring Mississippi songwriters was Kiln, MS native and season one finalist of NBC’s Emmy Award winning competition The Voice, Serabee. Treating her listeners to familiar and new compositions, Serabee (Sera Buras) entertained the sizeable audience of nearly 100 cars for two solo sets. Serabee whose southern blues, R&B, gospel musical style has made her a favorite artist with four studio albums to her credit and another underway was featured by The Southland Music Line in an article and photos of her debut at Satchmo’s Jazz Cafe (see link following this article).

Serabee & The Blues Revival Band can currently be seen at venues across the South and Gulf Coast such as the Bogalusa Blues and Heritage Festival, Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, Satchmo’s Jazz Cafe of D’Iberville and The Peoples Room of Mobile. Their next upcoming show is April 3, 2021 at the live music venue, Club 320 Fifth Street of Laurel, MS.

The City of Gautier and the Mississippi Songwriters Alliance will continue this unique concert series indefinitely at the same location which is near the City’s newest undertaking of Town Commons Park to include an outdoor amphitheater, pavilions, musical playground, splash pad, sports fields and more. The Mississippi Songwriters Alliance, producer of the exceptionally popular Mississippi Songwriters Festival, held each September in Ocean Spring, will continue to provide Mississippi music artists for each concert. Upcoming artists are Jeff Bates on April 10 and Sean Gasaway on May 1, with more to follow.
