Corey Rezner’s Gift for Song Translates Well on His Latest Album, “Mercy Mercy”
Stephen Anderson and I, both of The Southland Music Line, finally attended a Corey Rezner show – our first opportunity since the release of his album, “Mercy Mercy” (A 2015 Baldwin County Public Records release produced by Anthony Crawford and recorded at Admiral Bean Studios in Loxley, AL).
The 2015 album, complete with original material by Rezner, translates well and was delivered nicely at the Listening Room in Mobile, AL on a recent November evening.
The soulful title track, “Mercy Mercy” lays the groundwork for the eight songs that follow. Secondly, there is the delightful tune, “Sang, Sang, Sang”, fitting for singing along. “Now is the Time”, “All You’ve Got” with its nice blend and mixture between vocals and instruments; followed by the fervent vocals of “Like A King”; and the beautiful “Learn How to Love” are all up next.
An early favorite, “Walk into the Sun” continues Rezner’s smooth showcase of songs which are ever so pleasing to the ears. Such a great song is followed by “Pensacola Kid”, a song based on Rezner’s own encounter with a train traveling gambler. The album closes with the especially pleasant and pretty “Lost in the Wild” – its unique island flare provides Rezner with the perfect way to conclude his album.
Rezner from Fairhope, AL (now living in Denver, CO) is proving to be a first rate songwriter, refreshingly willing to attempt a variety of sounds and style. We look forward to seeing him again and encourage others to purchase “Mercy Mercy”. Rezner can be seen performing nationally, but in recent months, the Denver music scene has had the good fortune of having him perform in its increasingly popular haven for incredible music.
